Darkside Productionz Biography

Darkside Productionz© is owned and operated by Mark Liebrand. Starting back in 1999, Mark started DJ'ing with a couple of his friends as a hobby. Later that DJ'ing led Mark into the turntablism "scratching" scene where he became very involved with scratching. He spent the next year threw High School practicing his scratching craft. During this time Mark and a good friend started meeting up after school at his house to go threw records and to find instrumentals to mix, scratch, and rap over. It was this time where the name "Darkside" was born. Mark's friend, who went by MC Marz, was freestyling over an instrumental and he said a line and decided to improvise a name for Mark because he had never thought of going by a name at that time. The name "Darkside" stuck ever since...

Eventually, Mark decided to buy his first Roland drum machine. Threw his Senior year of High School Mark and his friend had put together a lot of potential songs. This is at about the point in Mark's life where he felt that he finally found what he was looking for. Music has found its way deep into Mark's life, helping him find an outlet for his frustrations.

With the support of his family and friends, Mark had found the courage to follow his dreams. In 2001, Mark's brother Paul put together a web site for him to put all of his DJ material. This was when www.djdarkside.com was introduced to the world. Over the next few years Mark invested a lot of time into learning scratch techniques, studying a bit of music theory, networking with other dj's, and making beats on the side with Propellerheads Reason.

While working with is father at his computer store (Cipher Computer Systems) www.ciphercomputersystems.com, Mark got reconnected with an old Elementary School friend, Ralphy aka Ralph Dogg. They began to work on music together and developed a great friendship. It was during this time when Mark deiced to he wanted to become a Producer / Engineer. Mark and Ralphy recorded 13 songs in the time span of about 3 months which also featured some close friends. They decided to make a demo to hand out to their friends. The demo was called "Ralph Dogg" Aka Sleep. They got a good response from their friends and kept working together. Mark and Ralphy are still friends to this day but their music path has grown apart. There will be more songs from the two of them in the future.

During these years Mark began to build a home recording studio. Equipment came and went and so did software. There was a lot of trial and error for Mark before he found the perfect setup for himself. Something easy to use and comfortable. Mark is currently running an Acer Aspire 5670 Laptop with Windows XP Operating System, 1 GIG of RAM, 80 GIG Hard Drive, Yamaha 01X Mixer, Yamaha Motif ES, Yamaha Electric Acoustic Guitar, Akai MPC1000, Studio Projects C1 Condenser Microphone, Rode NT Condenser Microphone, Studiophile BX8 Monitor Speakers, RNC Compressor, Cakewalk Sonar 7.0 Production Edition, Propellerheads Reason and Recycle 2.0, Adobe Audition, Waves Platinum Bundle, and a Vintage Bass Guitar.

For now... Mark is spending his time studying his craft. You can always find him working on music, reading about it, talking about it, or dreaming about it. Mark expresses that music saved his life and gave him a purpose. His passion for music grows on a daily basis and his will to learn and never give up is impressive to say the least. Darkside Productionz© was developed with one main purpose, to change lives. Whether is threw music or any other art, Mark wants to find away to reach out to our youth and give them other avenues to express themselves, rather than drugs. Life is precious and valuable and we all have something to offer. We all have a hidden gift, idea, or emotions! These ideas need to be channeled into something constructive and healthy to the body, the mind, and the soul.

It is a promise that there will be more of Mark and Darkside Productionz© to come. He has no plans of slowing down his momentum or giving into all the people who try to bring him down. Nothing can stop a dream with dedication and passion driving it. Darkside Productionz© is a freight train force to be reckoned with. Keep your eyes and hears pealed for more Darkside Productionz©.
