Mark Liebrand Biography
Mark Liebrand was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on January 14, 1982. He had a normal childhood growing up with his two older brothers, Sean and Paul. Mark and his family lived in South Africa until he was 10 years old when they decided to move to The United States. Little did he know that the day he got on that plain would be the turning point in his life...
Having being brought up in another country as a child, Mark now has a better understanding or both sides of the world, which works to his advantage. Back in 1999 one of Mark's close friends, 'DJ Haze' had brought over turntables to his house which was the point in his life when he first fell in love with music creation. He saw great potential in turntables and the things that can be done with them. On his 20th birthday his parents bought him his first turntable setup, which was a set of Stanton turntables and a Behringer DJ Mixer. From that day on he was hooked. He would spend hours at a time studying and researching scratching techniques and practicing to better his skills as a turntablist.
Over the next year his skills as a turntablist progressed. He then decided that he would save up for a new set of turntables, better ones. He saved up for 6 months and bought himself a pair of Technic 1200 Turntables and a Vestax 07 Pro Scratch Mixer. Mark became deeply intrigued with the ability to manipulate sound in so many different ways. Some time went by and he decided to sell his Technic 1200's for a pair of the new Vestax PDX 2000 Turntables, which were designed with the scratch DJ in mind. From that point on his skills progressed along with his love for music.
After Mark graduated from Irvine High School with the class of 2001 he started working with his dad at his computer store where he still works today to make the money that helps fund his passion for music and pave the road to his dreams. During the first year working with his dad Mark started to notice a bit of pain in his right wrist which, at the time he thought was caused by using muscles in his wrist he hadn't used before during scratching. Over the next few months he started the notice the problem was getting worse and had also moved into his left wrist. He decided to see a Dr. and found out the cause of his problem was from repetitive stress also known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Repetitive Stress Injury. Mark was devastated. He saw his hopes and dreams crash in front of his eyes.
Mark then decided to give up scratching all together because the pain had gotten so much worse. Still having his passion for music Mark felt empty like something was missing from his life. He was now on a search for a way to fill the emptiness. That's when Mark stumbled across some music software called 'Reason' by a company called Propellerhead. He began to make beats during his free time at work.
In 2002, Mark had decided that he wanted to become a producer / songwriter. From that time on Mark knew that he was put here to stir up some noise with his music. He began saving up his money to buy the music equipment that he needed one-by-one to build up his home recording studio. It took him 2 years to save up and buy all the equipment he needed. As the studio was slowly coming together, Mark had started doing work with a long time friend and rapper that goes by the name of 'Ralph Dogg,' and his friend 'Young K9.' Since then Mark has been hiding out in the shadows developing his skills as a producer / songwriter waiting for the right time to show the world he talents.
The road is long and has only been short traveled. Things have yet to be accomplished and goals have yet to be set and broken. Mark is always growing and maturing along with his music and his love for what he does. Many people have influenced Mark in many ways. Some of them include: Ralph Dogg, Young K9, both of Mark's older brothers (Sean and Paul), his dad (Ben), all of his friends from the Brywood crew and from High School, Chelsea Robinson, JW. Carter, DJ Kage, J-Dogg, DJ Haze, Akbar, DJ Fluent, Geo, all his friends at Motifator.com, Greg from Konnected Inc. and his cousin J.B, Amen, Definite, friend and producer, Sean O.C. from Yunyen at www.yunyen.com.
